Beginner Dog Training

How do you know if your dog needs
Beginner Obedience Classes ??

Dogs with little or no training should be enrolled in this class, even if you have done quite a bit of training with your dog at home or through another training school. Here are some guidelines to help you to know if the beginner class is right for you and your dog:

You have to repeat commands. We do not believe in repeating commands. One command and your dog should respond. Nagging dogs is the same as nagging children or spouses...and you know how well
     that works!!

You have to say "NO" A LOT AND the dog tunes you out.

Your dog pulls on the leash. We teach dogs how to walk right beside you on a loose leash without the dog
pulling and sitting when you stop walking - all on the first command.

Your dog won't come when called. We will show you how to train a reliable "come when called" and only
have to say "come" one time.

Your dog won't stay for one to three minutes around distractions. Sit-stay, down-stay, and stand-stay -
around lots of distractions!!! - are all taught in the beginner class.

You are still having behavior problems. We will help you find the best solution for all behavior problems
(SOMETHING will work) for barking, chewing, digging, jumping up, playbiting, and other common

     problems.

South Mountain Dog Training Beginner classes are designed with the following guidelines, goals, and expectations in mind:

To gain control of your adolescent (teenager) dog and eliminate problem behavior.

For any dog over 5 months (NO dog is too old!). Occasionally, a large breed puppy who is too large to
attend Puppy Preschool, will be able to attend this class at 4 months old.

Dogs only learn by repetition so you must be willing and able to spend 15 to 30 minutes per day at home
teaching him what is expected of him.

The classes are structured for pet people who want a well-behaved and controlled dog in all situations.
Emphasis for this class will be to teach you how to get your dog under control at home, as well as out in
     public.

Once you have completed this class, you and your dog should be just about ready to take and pass the
therapy dog test so your dog could become a certified Therapy Dog with Therapy Dogs International.  You should be fully prepared to take and pass the test after completing the Advanced Beginner Class.

All classes are filled on a first-come, first-served PAID basis.

$225 for eight weeks, which includes a leather leash and a chain collar.
